You might belong in Gryffindor, Where dwell the brave at heart, Their daring, nerve, and chivalry Set Gryffindors apart; You might belong in Hufflepuff, Where they are just and loyal, Those patient Hufflepuffs are true And unafraid of toil; Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw, if you’ve a ready mind, Where those of wit and learning, Will always find their kind; Or perhaps in Slytherin You’ll make your real friends, Those cunning folks use any means To achieve their ends.
Or maybe friggin’ Bonersnoot, Where sexiness abounds, Creep across their common room And you’ll hear moaning sounds.

Anyone know of a decent documentary focusing on polyamory?

Preferably something fun and nice for a queer, college audience. (Some successful films we’ve had include “8: The Mormon Proposition,” “We Were Here,” “Fish Out of Water,” and “Fabulous,” if that gives an example of what kind of style I’m looking for.)

All suggestions welcome and appreciated!

People not from AVEN will not understand

midnightpoe:

Why I have a problem with the current election:

So first I decided to run for PT, and all was well.

I wasn’t sure about running for PT, but some people said (talking in smoke filled rooms) there needed to be a greater selection of competent candidates. So I ran. And then hexaquark decided to run. Or rather, the PT sent a request for hexa to run.

And this is where everything went downhill. The first was a major break from the professionalism of an AVEN mod who had the BALLS to say that there was finally a candidate worthy of voting for (slapping the other three candidates, myself included, across the face)…. of course, right in front of me in a skype chat. Plain as day. And gentle, polite, nudging that I could see what this mod was saying changed nothing.

And then elections came, distraught over the preceding events, I didn’t submit a bio. Well enough, the election rolled on as predicted: hexa with a strong lead. And then tyki and gott started campaigning for me, and for a while I was even ahead of hexa in the polls. I was messaged privately by a PT member, concerned over how well I was doing despite not having a bio. Yes, they were concerned that I may win. God forbid an election occurs.

And so I submitted a bio and as heat from the backroom built due to my position, my campaigning died down. With that occurring, I lost the race. I found out later that at least one pt member had been campaigning in private against me, and (as was obvious from before) at least one mod was publicly supporting hexa while not on aven.

But now tyki and gott, the people who campaigned the most for me, as well as myself are being targeted by new campaign rules. I mean… ask yourself: why now? These campaign techniques have been used in the past to support CURRENT aven mods. Arche only won from MASSIVE campaigning. Tyki has campaigned for mods in the past.

But now I come up, unsupported by the backroom… and all of a sudden tyki and gott are bad people, and my path to victory must be stunted.

I call bullshit.

I will not submit a bio, I will not answer questions about myself, I am tired of this “backroom” nonsense. High school politics, get over it. Vote for me if you want someone who doesn’t give a fuck about this stupid politics game.

Have a nice day.

Edit: I would like to add that I do not mean this as an attack, many of the individuals involved have been apologetic. But this does not make the causes of this go away. There seems to be a culture in the backroom which produces this, and that is what I seek to point out and change.

I don’t have much to say except:

1. I’m so sorry that people are shitty, and

2. This is pretty much the exact reason why I don’t go on AVEN and I have a hard time suggesting the AVEN forums as a resource for people trying to come out.

The real love story is between Chris Pine and Tom Hardy. They compare penis size. They walk away from hot ladies to beat the shit out of guys while gazing into each others’ eyes. Pine is told they have work to do. A German with a giant chin steps into the room. “Yes we do”, he says, while trying to conceal his boner. The two men talk about love and commitment – you know what guys actually talk about? Nothing, that’s what. Hardy’s character actually says “I would take a bullet for you, I love you, you know… you know what we have, together… don’t you want that with a woman?” Of course, Pine answers in the negative. Oh, and they go on a date together and Hardy meets Pine’s mother. Even the inevitable fight between them brims with sexual tension, while any makeout scene with the girl is more awkward and forced than the explanation any guy in the audience will have for their date about where their erection came from. And look at the leads. Witherspoon has the sexual dynamism of a concrete block. Meanwhile, Pine and Hardy are pinup material. Pine gives off a vibe that suggests that he is rather flexible in these matters. And Tom Hardy is… well, every man in the audience of his films is bisexual by definition. I’d give the man an enthusiastic handjob, and I’m not even gay. I think.

On my Facebook, I posted a newspaper article where two fraternity boys at my campus kidnapped and raped a woman (each charged with three felonies), their fraternity brothers paid their bail the same day, and they were released and allowed to return to school, with the only consequence being that they are no longer ‘official’ members of the fraternity.

Response from (male) friend: “Innocent until proven guilty.”

Just sayin’

When you post a picture of a bald girl dancing with a guy at prom

and you automatically assume she must have cancer

and you comment on it that it’s “inspirational”

and that “he’s a real man for loving her”

and you ordinarily scoff at pictures of teens doing normal teen things

and you get defensive when someone calls you out for your inspirational porn

and you claim you like it because “she’s so brave” and “proud to be different”

then you’re probably a jackass.

Aces, you keep using that word.

switch-off-the-stars:

I do not think it means what you think it means.
I read this a little bit ago on FuckYeahRetailRobin. please take it to heart because you keep saying “trigger” and it’s bugging the crap out of me.

“A trigger is strictly something that happens to those with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and can maybe be extended without much consequence to those with anxiety disorders.
A “trigger” is like… say when a Vietnam war veteran hears a car backfire, is reminded of a gunshot and is sent into a nasty flash back which can then cause hallucinations, delusions or panic attacks.  The trigger is a loud, gunshot-like noise.
It’s essentially when someone who has had some seriously bad shit happen to them is sent into a state of severe anxiety and emotional trauma from seeing, hearing or experiencing certain things.
Tumblr tends to want trigger warnings on things that make them uncomfortable, irritable, angry or sad or anything that makes them experience negative emotion really.  While I can respect a person’s need or want to not have negative things mixed in with something that brings them pleasure, to them I say:  tough.
You’re working with a social networking site which the content of is contributed by thousands of individuals and to assume that you are entitled to police the content of their posts because they make you experience a range of emotions its unpleasant to experience is to kind of resist being human in my opinion.
Good and bad emotion go hand and hand and just like anything you have to achieve a balance and be at peace with bad things as well as enjoy and share good things.
Not that this is a direct criticism of you.  I don’t know you.  You probably just don’t like stories about animals being hurt and it made you want to cry as, I admit, it made me want to.  It’s okay to not want to read that type of thing and to be saddened by it.
But trigger is not the word you are looking for.  Because your sadness is not something you can fairly compare to the sheer hell of PTSD or an severe anxiety disorder (which is questionable as far as the idea of triggers go of being part of it).
If you learned the word off Tumblr, please be informed the word has gotten spread around falsely and shouldn’t be used except in the case where you are trying to prevent people who suffer from PTSD from going into an episode.
I know this because I was using the word incorrectly too until a good friend pointed it out to me much like I am doing now and I pretty much said “Oh shit, okay I didn’t know.””

Tl;dr - stop saying trigger. You’re don’t have PTSD.

I know a lot of people are going to write this in response, and I’ll echo them: Lots of aces ARE triggered by sexual images. Some aces have been raped or molested or whatever else, and they DO experience PTSD when they see certain images. I have PTSD, though I’m not triggered by sexual images. I’m triggered by many other things, and like many other aces, I make sure to differentiate between the words “trigger” and “bothered/annoyed/etc.” Yes, some aces do misuse the word “trigger,” just as people from ALL communities do. No need to point at aces like you’re on some high horse and say we’re the ones doing it wrong when there are hundreds of communities you can say it about.

So, in short, please don’t speak so condescendingly to an entire community about shit you don’t know about our lives.
